Summary

Old Chinaman's Gulch is an old trail near Buena Vista. A while ago, access to the trail was blocked by a private company. Recently however, a local 4x4 club has found a back door (Directions Below). Located just outside of Buena Vista, Old Chinaman's Gulch can be easily driven as a day trip from Denver (about 2 hours away) The trail is a fun drive with the majority of difficulty coming from some really tight trees (a good spotter is required) and some large rocks (High clearance required!)

Trail Report

The staff at COSports has not driven this trail and thus, no trail report is available. Any person interested in submitting a trip report for Old Chinaman's Gulch (along with pictures) should E-MAIL COSports

A group of Jeep XJ's drove this trail this fall and here are some pictures from their trip:
Watch out for those rocks! Don't tip over...

How To Get There

These are the Directions from Denver.
Take 285 to Johnsonville. As you pass Johnsonville start watching the mile markers. Near mile marker 221 you will see Rd #307 on the left.
Take Rd #307 (it is a dirt road that runs along a stream). There will be a right turn toward Castle Rock Gulch.
Take this turn. The road runs through (or near) some private property and past several nice beaver lodges. You will come upon Rd #300 on the right.
Take Rd #300. Rd #300 will split with Rd #300 going left(toward Bald Mountain Gulch) and Rd #300A going right (toward Arnold Gulch). (The GPS coordinates for this turn are N38 47 464 W106 02 598)
Take Rd #300A. The road to Arnold Gulch dead ends at a cable crossing the road. Just before it dead ends there is a road to the right. This is the beginning of Old Chinaman's Gulch. (If you get to the cable then turn around and the road will be the first on your left). The GPS coordinates for this point are N38 48 082 W106 03 121.
Old Chinaman's Gulch is a loop trail that starts here. Shortly after the start you will come to a Y. Either road will let you run the trail but taking the left makes the trail easier.
